Eyes-on with Tempest 4000

Take me back, take me back to that place.

We've covered Tempest 4000 before, including its interesting development and creator Jeff Minter's fraught legal history with Atari, but at this year's E3 we got a great up-close-and-personal look at this reinvention of the arcade classic.

With vibrant, luminous visuals in native 4K resolution and a period-appropriate techno soundtrack, Tempest 4000 is a rare example of nostalgia done exactly right. There are three gameplay modes -- standard, "pure," and endurance -- and a whopping 100 levels. It's out right now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and it'll be launching in conjunction with Atari's upcoming VCS mini console in June 2019.

Have a look at Tempest 4000's gorgeous reimagined-retro gameplay below.
